Adirondogs Welcome
The Best Dog-Friendly Adventures in Lake Placid This Spring & Summer
At High Peaks Resort, we believe every getaway is better with a four-legged friend by your side. And in Lake Placid, our pups aren’t just allowed—they’re celebrated. This spring and summer, we asked some of our local friends for their favorite dog-approved activities and insider tips. Whether your pup prefers a tail-wagging trail run, a lakeside nap, or a post-hike pup cup, Lake Placid’s got your pack covered.
Dog-Friendly Events to Kick Off the Season
May Day 10K & 5K9 – May 4, 2025
Get ready to stretch those paws! The first May Day 10K and 5K9 welcomes well-behaved pups on non-retractable leashes to join in the fun. Whether you're racing for a new PR or just out for a joyful jog with your canine companion, this Lake Placid tradition is the perfect way to celebrate spring in stride. It’s an ideal warm-up for both seasoned runners and enthusiastic sniffers.

Where the Trails Have Tails
There’s no shortage of scenic routes in the Adirondacks, but these local favorites are the ones our Lake Placid pups love best:
East Branch Community Trails
Located in nearby Keene, these smooth, flowing trails are great for low-impact hikes and on-leash walks. With soft forest paths and gentle slopes, it’s perfect for older pups or a peaceful afternoon together.
Clements Pond Trail
Looking for a bit more adventure? This moderate 3-mile round-trip hike in the Whiteface Region features a lovely pond at the end, perfect for water-loving dogs to dip their paws—leashed, of course!
Heaven Hill Trails
True to its name, Heaven Hill offers wide trails and pastoral views that’ll make you and your dog feel like you’re walking through a painting. These lesser-known trails are a local gem and a go-to for quiet strolls away from the crowds.
Adirondack Rail Trail
Is your pup up for a bigger adventure? The Adirondack Rail Trail is a flat, multi-use trail that will eventually stretch 34 miles. For now, leash up for a jog, or, for an unforgettable journey, bring your bike and a pet trailer for a 20-mile ride through the forest together.
Dining With Dogs – Adirondack Style
Outdoor dining is the name of the game when you’re grabbing a bite with your best friend. New York State law restricts dogs in enclosed restaurant spaces, but that hasn’t stopped Lake Placid’s local eateries from rolling out the red carpet for your pup.
- Lisa G’s: Laid-back eats with riverside outdoor seating and space to stretch.
- Lake Placid Pub & Brewery: Grab a brew and enjoy the patio with your pooch while soaking in the lake views.
- Big Slide Brewery: A local favorite with a spacious outdoor beer garden and pup-friendly vibes.
Local Tip We Love
Pick up a stacked sandwich from Simply Gourmet, then head to the nearby Peninsula Trails. A peaceful walk and a perfect picnic spot await, with views of Lake Placid that are just as satisfying as that turkey and cheese.
Pup Cup Pick-Me-Up
After a day of adventure, treat your buddy to a doggie dish at Donnelly’s Ice Cream. Just make sure to check the daily flavor—Donnelly’s only serves one per day, and on chocolate days, you’ll want to bring your own treat for your pup.

April 30 Only – Paws, Play, and Pay It Forward
In honor of National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day, we’re wagging our tails with purpose. On April 30 only, 100% of the pet fee for all Peaks Pup packages booked at High Peaks Resort will be donated to Tri-Lakes Humane Society. No blackout dates. No restrictions. Just a heartfelt way to pamper your pup and support shelter animals waiting for homes. Because love looks a lot like muddy paws and a wagging tail.
